Jakarta, 27 February 2024 – TRINSEO, a worldwide provider of material solutions, is prepared to make a positive difference in society by engaging in tree planting initiatives and promoting education on waste management through the "School Roadshow 2024" program. As the organizer of the Let’s Do Recycling! Program (hereinafter referred to as: YYADU!) Trinseo is teaming up with Kita Olah Indonesia and Perbanusa as endeavor to encourage sustainable change and develop green spaces for a healthier environment, while also urging schools to become agents of change in waste segregation and recycling, especially for plastic waste. "With the 2024 school roadshow program, our intention is to convey our perspectives on the general waste management practices in Indonesia. This initiative serves as a platform to share insights, fostering a collective understanding of the state of waste governance in our country," said President Director PT Trinseo Materials Indonesia who also serves as Director of Environment & Sustainability Affairs at Responsible Care® Indonesia, Hanggara Sukandar.
"Waste management cannot succeed if undertaken solely by specific entities; it requires continuous collaboration among various stakeholders, including educational institutions, government bodies, private sectors, industries, environmental and waste management
Press Release for Immediate release associations, and households. Active participation from all these parties is crucial to create an ecosystem for waste management and recycling," said Hanggara Sukandar. "The importance of sustained campaigns cannot be overlooked. Therefore, support from educational institutions is crucial to the success of this initiative," he added.
Referring to the ongoing commitment of the YYADU! program, the idea emerged to conduct a roadshow activity to schools to educate students about the importance of actively managing and sorting waste. Nine schools participated in this activity, including SMP 2 Depok, SMP 3 Depok, SMP 4 Depok, SMP 10 Depok, SMP 16 Depok, SMP Al Hasra, SM Al-Wafi, SMP Al-Hamidiyah, and SMPIT Darul Rahman, throughout February 2024.
To stimulate enthusiasm among school communities for this program, a sanitation competition was held for one month. Key criteria for this competition included the implementation of a comprehensive waste sorting system, an organized and effective approach to waste management, a strong culture of waste sorting among students and staff, and a sustainable commitment to environmental responsibility.
Several schools participating in the program have demonstrated exceptional dedication and creativity in their approaches to waste management. Among the winning schools are SMP 10 Depok, SMP Al-Hamidiyah, and SMP 3 Depok. These schools have implemented comprehensive waste sorting systems, established recycling facilities at the school, and organized engaging awareness campaigns to actively involve students.
"I consider the program to be very good and comprehensive. Therefore, we followed up by gathering 50 children into one waste management team. SMP Negeri 10 happened to be nominated as a national level Adiwiyata school, so I think the program from YYADU! can add points in the selection process," said Antoni, the headmaster of SMP Negeri 10 Depok which is also the first winner of this program.
The winners of the Let’s Do Recycling! Program have all taken proactive steps to use plastic and waste wisely within their school premises. By implementing initiatives focused on minimizing plastic waste, these schools have not only reduced their environmental footprint but have also set a positive example for both students and staff.
