About Let's Do Recycling Program

Together We Make Indonesia Greener

The Let's Do Recycling! Program (the Program) was launched in 2019 with an initial aim of advocating the use and recycling of polystyrene (PS), a highly recyclable and safe food packaging material through an alliance of manufacturers, restaurants, consumers, waste collection and recycling associations, and other stakeholders in various communities in Indonesia, helping to reduce plastic waste. This is realized by collaborating with the authorities, other partner organizers, supporting organizations and stakeholders to achieve the best we can on a circular economy.

Plastics have helped improve living standards, hygiene and nutrition around the world, especially in developing countries. But used plastics have become a global environmental challenge. Research has identified the most significant sources of unmanaged plastic waste, and key aspects of the solution. Replacing plastics in packaging and consumer products with alternative materials could raise environmental costs nearly fourfold.

Today the Program encompasses two main initiatives: Sustainable PS Packaging Program and PS Waste Management Program. Collection centers are locations where valuable PS wastes are collected and processed for onward recycling, giving PS waste a second life.

The recent epidemic has resulted in the reemergence for an unprecedented awareness in the importance of single-use plastics, such as PS food packaging, which has proven to be one of the most hygienic options.
